MONTREAL<!-- /dateline --> ? Environment Canada is confirming that two low-intensity tornadoes hit the Montreal region on Monday evening.

The twisters, rated at F0 -- the lowest intensity -- by Environment Canada, touched down in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and Mascouche.

Serge Mainville of Environment Canada says damage was sparse.

Winds were estimated at 90 km-h by the national weather service.
Branches were blown off trees in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and one gazebo was knocked over.

The severe weather followed a tornado which hit Ontario last Wednesday, the same day an earthquake was felt in parts of Quebec, Ontario and the United States.

There are about six tornadoes in Quebec every year, most of them F0s, Mainville says.
