Conference-related Business Pandemic Planning

Advisory Board, Senior Moderator

The Freeman Company is sharing with the public an edited version of their own Pandemic Influenza Business Continuity Plan, edited to remove company-specific detail.

Freeman produces expositions, conventions, corporate events and exhibits -? face-to-face events that would be seriously impacted by a pandemic. This plan may provide a useful model for related businesses.

It can be found on the website of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (www.iaee.com), which has a page on exhibition safety and security:

Also linked from the IAEE page is a second more general article called "A Planner's Guide to Preparedness." Note that the medical risk assessment provided in this article may not reflect more recent thinking about the odds of a pandemic, but the industry-specific issues appear to be useful.

Re: Conference-related Business Pandemic Planning

Interesting to see the thought process of one of the largest tradeshow event planners around. When you consider that their entire industry could be shut down for months minimally, they could be in for a rough ride. Not to mention that a large percentage of their staff is contract/temp employees drawn from unions and local sources for the shows they manage. I was just at one of their shows in Vegas where they were even then having trouble staffing the breakdown of the convention due to employee shortages and not because of a pandemic.
