Comments on an ABC news Article

This is what I thought to be a very good article on our vax/tamiflu tier scheme. ReadyMom, Kobie and some of our other flubies gave educated opinions.

And the rest left me shaking my head because they will be the first to be screaming when they realize how far down on the tier they likely are. I quote some of the comments: "Fiction, fear mongering and doomsday prophecies." "... writer was thinking: "lets cause a stir by asking whos life is worth more. When the time comes, we will see what happens." "Pandemic paranoia."

Here's the story:

Re: Comments on an ABC news Article

when you're down the tier, you should still be allowed to buy
you own prepandemic vax, or not ?

Apparently they are trying to prevent this - no vax available to
privates, only organisations,companies.

Why ?

Re: Comments on an ABC news Article

They can't even decide if we should be able to stock antivirals. Surprisingly to me, there was no discussion on this article.

http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84623

* Concerns were raised about whether people could be trusted to store and use the drugs appropriately
* Some experts worried whether parents would be able to gauge the amount of drug their children would need and mix a solution - by breaking open capsules - based on the child's weight.
* Still others echoed the concerns raised by representatives of physician and pharmacist groups who argued against taking the responsibility for deciding when a person needs a prescription drug out of the hands of medical professionals.

More testing is required to see if we are able to handle stockpiling antivirals responsibly. It's doubful, imo, that they will trust us with vaccine.

Re: Comments on an ABC news Article

but remember that the CDC has changed her attitude towards private
stockpiling of Tamiflu recently (after ~3 years)

we had a thread here, AFAIR.
CDC now encourages private antiviral stockpiles

Re: Comments on an ABC news Article

If those medkits from the Mixin cited link in #3 would have into also an antiviral, and an prepandemic vaccine, why not to buy/purchase.

#2: gsgs had it right in #2 IMO.

Awk (how many text lines to read),
JJackson0001 wrote it simple:

"As we have not prepared adequately, as a society, for this occurrence it is not unreasonable for the media to draw this fact to our attention lest we had just not realised the implications of this potential disaster. With our current level of technology we can not stop the next pandemic happening what we can ? and must - do is ensure there are vaccine plants capable of quickly producing enough vaccine for all. Shutting schools and sending non-essential workers home is not much use if the pandemic is severe. They can not stay there for ever it is only useful to buy time until they can be vaccinated. With our current vaccine manufacturing methods and capacity they should expect to be confined for some years. The required changes to the vaccine production capacity and method are political and a matter of national security not the prevue of the commercial sector. It is unreasonable to expect corporations to build capacity to produce enough vaccine for everyone at a few months notice when they can expect one order every 30 or 40 years. Either we accept the periodic culling of a few million Americans and a return to the economic Stone Age or we pay for vaccine plants. We spend much larger amounts on other types of armourments and there is no obvious enemy capable of killing anything like as many of us.P.S. Magdalathea & anna.afshar eating your greens may help you live long and prosper but is no guarantee against H5N1. It, and 1918 H1N1, both seem to use the young and fit?s robust immune system against them. Now on the otherhand a nice nicotine coating on the lung surface ?. </MSGTEXT><SIG></SIG></MSG>

Finaly for the text in 3!, here it was pushing every time on the wrong register fact:

- do the triages, and then the neccessary ones would receive the vaccine panacea - there would not be any vaccine for nobody of the frontliners, nor health nor else, because the real matched pandemic vaccine would be reacheable only 3-4-6 months AFTER the pandemic tide - when it wasn't necessary for the survivors!

The above speking obviously would not fit fot the 1% VIPs, as every time being.

Additionaly, the above means that such triage are unneccessary, because it would be done on pre-pandemic vaccines and be inoculated when the pandemic starts, so that triage thing is an missleading item - instead it must be pushed by an joint scientific statement that we have enaugh time (probably) to create enaugh prepandemics of some sort to be delivered to everybody if it is neccessary.
