Patient is considered to be at low risk for Ebola virus infection

Loveland, Colo. (April 2, 2015) ? Infectious diseases specialists from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and UCHealth are evaluating a patient with symptoms of Ebola.

CDPHE is currently conducting an Ebola test, and results should be known on Thursday morning. The patient also is being evaluated/tested for other conditions.

The patient was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies by a specially equipped ambulance on Wednesday evening after becoming ill. The patient had recently traveled to an Ebola-affected country.

While the patient is considered to be at low risk of infection with the Ebola virus, the patient is in an isolated and secure area away from other patients, staff and visitors during the evaluation process. Medical Center of the Rockies is taking all possible precautions to ensure the safety of other patients, visitors and staff.

Symptoms may appear anywhere between 2-21 days after exposure and include a fever, muscle pain, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and lack of appetite. Public health officials remind everyone that Ebola is spread through direct contact with blood and body fluids of a person already showing symptoms of Ebola. Ebola is not spread through the air, water, food, or mosquitoes.
