FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 12, 2015

Dr. Larry Wolk, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director|
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment

Last night CDPHE referred an individual at low-risk for Ebola to Denver Health for further evaluation and monitoring. The person had fever overnight and a history of travel to an Ebola-affected country that called for additional evaluation. In consultation this morning with CDC, Denver Health, Denver Public Health and Jefferson County Health Department it was determined the patient?s condition and low-risk status don?t warrant testing for Ebola at this time.

The individual continues to be monitored at Denver Health. The patient is considered low-risk, but we are exercising extreme caution.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 12, 2015

DENVER ? The individual being evaluated for Ebola symptoms at Denver Health Medical Center will be tested for the Ebola virus out of an abundance of caution. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment consulted with CDC, Denver Health Medical Center, Denver Public Health, Denver Environmental Health and the Jefferson County Health Department this afternoon and determined that, although the patient?s condition has not deteriorated, in the absence of another diagnosis a specimen will be tested at the state lab overnight.

Additional testing may be conducted depending on the patient?s clinical status over the next few days as it may take up to three days after symptoms start for the virus to reach detectable levels.

The patient will remain isolated at Denver Health Medical Center.
