Grand Junction (KJCT)-Widespread shortages of the h1-n1 vaccine are being reported all over the nation. And now Montrose County is expecting a shipment of 500 doses as early as Tuesday.

And according to Montrose County Health Department that's only a third of what they were expecting.

In Mesa County, the health department received the amount of needed flu mist but are in need of the injectable vaccine. And they hope for more sometime this week.

Both health departments are saying it's not considereda shortage but a delay in the production.

"You know we are at the mercy of the distributors. Although we know we should get another shipment every week were not sure what those needs are... As a community asks for a certain amount of vaccine. We're getting that vaccine over time. So each week we get a shipment from the distributor of vaccine. And they're trying to meet our needs. It's going to be a very slow manner," says Christy Emerson with Mesa County Health Department.

The injectable version is used primarily for pregnant woman. Mesa County currently is out of the injectable vaccination.

Both counties are expecting to get all of the needed amount, the mist and the injectable. But they urge everyone to be patient and take precautions.

There are strict eligibility rules for who will be allowed to receive the vaccine. You must first be a resident of Fremont County.

There are strict eligibility rules for who will be allowed to receive the vaccine. You must first be a resident of Fremont County.

You must also fall into one of the following categories:

- Kids 6 months to 4 years old
- Anyone who is a caregiver to children under 6 months
- Healthcare worker
- Emergency Medical personnel

The clinic will be held from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the First Christian Church located at 16th and Franklin.

State health officials urge all persons with mild flu-like illness to stay home. Children and adolescents with fever should not go to day care or school. Adults with fever should not go to work until their fever has gone away for 24 hours (without use of fever reducing medicine). Individuals with severe illness, such as difficulty breathing, should contact their health care provider. Schools, businesses and other organizations are urged to plan for the flu.
To decrease chances of getting, or spreading the flu, the department recommends taking these steps to avoid the flu.

Schools to dispense free swine flu vaccine

The H1N1 vaccine is slowly arriving in Colorado, and Littleton Public Schools is taking the first steps in planning on-site vaccination clinics as they continue to see more absences due to flu-like symptoms.

Tri-County Health Department is working with the district to tighten up policies to stop the spread of the pandemic flu, predicted to spread with greater frequency this fall.

?The vaccine is coming as quick as it can happen,? said Dr. Richard Vogt, executive director of the health department.

H1N1 is affecting such a large age range, that ?half of the country? is categorized in the at-risk group, he said. Orders for the vaccine are climbing as the government tries to get it out to the most impacted areas.


Parents and guardians will have an opportunity to bring their children to the free clinic at Goddard Middle School, starting Nov. 16.

Additional clinics will take place at Euclid Middle School Nov. 17 and 19 from 4 to 8 p.m., and again in December.

Until then, the department is advising people to distance themselves from those who are sick and to wash their hands frequently to prevent the spread of the virus.

The health department?s plan is to work with health care partners to vaccinate those most in need, including children and young adults, pregnant women, caregivers of small children and emergency responders who have medical duties.

Severe cases have been common among those 25 and younger, but more people between the ages of 25 and 64 are becoming seriously ill, Vogt said.

Littleton Public Schools will monitor their daily absence rates and report to the Tri-County Health Department.

However, the department will no longer be making a notification about reported cases of students and staff with H1N1 because it is ?no longer necessary,? according to Lucinda Hundley, assistant superintendent of student support services for LPS.

In general, schools will not be closed unless they cannot operate because of a shortage of staff due to illness.

The department will inform the community if school closure is being considered.

Littleton Adventist Hospital is taking precautions to ward off an outbreak of the virus.

Signs inside and out of the hospital read: ?We ask that anyone under the age of 18, or anyone with a fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat, refrain from visiting the hospital ? unless they are seeking medical care.?

The restriction is a state-wide initiative recommended by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Virtually every hospital is implementing the restriction.

Unlike the seasonal flu, which tends to attack vulnerable populations such as the very young, the very old and the infirm, the swine flu virus shows up at a relatively higher rate in healthy young people and those in the prime of life ? through age 49, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

?Our emergency department continues to see cases of H1N1 and will continue to do so in the months to come, just as we do during the annual flu season,? hospital officials said.

?A few patients are sick enough that they require admission to the hospital for medical management, while most others are well enough that they do not require hospitalization and can be managed at home.?

The hospital is advising anyone who does develop flu-like symptoms to call a primary care physician.

This is particularly important for people with underlying medical issues such as asthma, and chemotherapy patients.

Appointments can be made starting Monday, November 9th, at 7:00am, either on the Mesa County Health Department's website (click the link below) or by calling the health department at (970) 683-6636.

Appointments are available on Tuesday, November 10, from 1:00pm - 6:00pm, and then again on Thursday, November 12, from 9:00am - 2:00pm.

All other routine immunization activities will be suspended on Tuesday and Thursday to give staff time to take care of the appointments.

Huge Turnout For H1N1 Vaccine In Highlands Ranch

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) -Two swine flu vaccination clinics were held Sunday morning for high-risk individuals at Denver Health Medical Center centers.

Denver Health hosted clinics at Eastside and Westside Family Health Centers. Each location had 500 doses available for pregnant women, children under 18, and health care workers.

Vaccinations started at 8 a.m.

It was a big weekend for flu shot clinics. People lined up early Saturday morning for a clinic at ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch. That was in spite of an e-mail that went out asking people to show up no more than 30 minutes early.

"I honestly don't know where the line goes to now, it's on the other side of the building," said Carmen Spond, who was waiting in line.

The Tri-County Health Department offered the nasal vaccine to people without health issues. There were 2,500 vaccinations available.

The health department says organizing a clinic in conjunction with a school district has its advantages.

"You have access to the population. I think if you do it in different locations it's more convenient for individuals," Dr. Richard Vogt with Tri-County Health said. "Many of our individuals in these settings are uninsured or underinsured. We're really providing a needed service to the community."

Denver Health will hold two flu clinics next Saturday, administering 1,000 doses of the swine flu vaccine. Two more clinics are coming up at the Eastside and Westside clinics on Nov. 21. Call the flu hotline at (303) 436-6100 or visit www.denverhealth.org.

H1N1 (Swine) flu shot appointment slots remain available from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday for Larimer County residents at the Ranch.

On-line registration has been extended at www.larimerflu.org.

Be sure to check the website before leaving home, to see if snow has canceled the clinic; information will be posted by 10 a.m. if canceled.

Eligible priority groups for vaccination include all Larimer residents age 6 months through 24 years, pregnant women, persons 6 months through 64 years with a chronic health condition, healthcare workers and anyone living with or caring for a child under 6 months of age. Only flu shots are available; all FluMist nasal spray vaccine slots have been filled.

H1N1 Vaccine Available At El Paso County Clinics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ― Hundreds of El Paso County residents are expected to get vaccinated against the swine flu.

The El Paso County Department of Health Environment says about 1,500 doses of the H1N1 vaccine will be available at a clinic at Harrison High School from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, or until supplies run out.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will have a free clinic Wednesday with 1,000 doses available for its students.

Denver Health to hold public H1N1 mass vaccination flu clinics Saturday, November 21

Denver Health will hold three public H1N1 vaccination clinics Saturday, November 21, at Eastside Family Health Center, 501 28th St.; Westside Family Health Center, 1100 Federal Blvd.; and at Rita Bass Trauma and EMS Institute, 190 W. 6<SUP>th</SUP> Ave.

Health care workers will begin administering vaccines at each location at 8 a.m.

Denver Public Health has made 3,000 doses available to vaccinate high risk patients. Vaccines will be given until all the 3,000 doses are gone.

Denver Health has broadened the priority groups to receive vaccine at these clinics to include:

pregnant women;
children and young adults under the age of 21;
persons who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months old (e.g., parents, siblings, and daycare providers);
health care workers with a photo health care ID; and
people between the ages of 25 and 64 years who have medical conditions (chronic lung disease; asthma; heart disease; diabetes, brain, spinal cord or muscle illness that causes swallowing or lung problems; problems with the immune system caused by medications and/or HIV; kidney disease, liver disease; blood disorders)

The line for the H1N1 shots will begin forming at 7 a.m. at each location, and tickets for the vaccinations will be given to those in line beginning at 7:45 a.m. Camping in the clinics? parking lots is prohibited, and patients will not be able to get in line until 7 a.m.

Larimer County sets H1N1 flu vaccine clinic Nov. 30

Registration has begun for the final large-scale H1N1 flu, or swine flu, vaccination clinic for the year sponsored by the Larimer County health department

The clinic with held 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at The Ranch, the Larimer County fairgrounds facility in Loveland. Shots and nasal spray will be available.

Registration is required through www.larimerflu.org or by calling (970) 670-6028. Phone registration is available 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday only.

DENVER -- Three Colorado counties are now offering H1N1 swine flu vaccine to anyone who wants it despite state guidelines that doses go to high risk groups first.

El Paso County announced Thursday it would offer the vaccine to all because supplies of the vaccine are increasing. Officials also believe they're meeting the needs of target populations, which include pregnant women, young children and medical workers.

Weld and Pueblo counties have also decided to make their vaccine doses available to everyone.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, the Larimer County Health Department will open registration for H1N1 vaccination appointments to anyone over 6 months of age who wants to be vaccinated.

The decision to open registration beyond the former priority groups was based on several factors: many members of priority groups in Larimer County have had the opportunity to be vaccinated during November at eight Health Department vaccination clinics; the supply of H1N1 vaccine is increasing every week; the interest in receiving H1N1 vaccine remains high among people outside of the priority groups; and there will be more vaccine providers in the community, such as private healthcare providers and local pharmacies.

?We recommend that members of the current priority groups who have not yet gotten an H1N1 vaccination register on-line before 10 am Monday, December 7th, when there will be more demand from the general public,? said Dr. Adrienne LeBailly, director of the Health Department.

?Although many members of Larimer County?s priority groups have had a chance to be vaccinated, there are likely some who were not able to get to one or our large clinics. This is a good chance to register for a vaccination before the opportunity is opened to the general public.?

The Health Department will be offering a limited number of H1N1 vaccinations at its Fort Collins, Loveland and Estes Park offices in December. The next large-scale clinic is planned for Jan. 10; until then, a limited amount of vaccine appointments will be available at scheduled times at the Health Department offices.

For the past month, much of the vaccine coming to the County went to the Health Department for the mass vaccination clinics, but throughout December, all the available vaccines will be going to medical practices, pharmacies, and other community vaccinators. The small clinics at the Health Department will help meet the need to get children under 10 vaccinated, as most community vaccinators will not immunize young children.

LeBailly stresses that, though H1N1 illness seems to be decreasing, there is still an unusual amount of flu activity, particularly among children and adults under 65.

?The more people who are vaccinated against this virus, the healthier our communities will be,? she said. ?During this holiday season, doing something positive for personal, family and community health is a great gift.?

Jeffco swine flu vaccine clinics opening to public

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Jefferson County health officials are opening their swine flu vaccination clinics to the general public, now that most of the county's high-risk population has been vaccinated.

Jefferson County Public Health says it has received 101,900 doses of the H1N1 vaccine and has distributed 82,274 doses so far.

More than 15,000 doses are available at clinics in Lakewood, Arvada, Littleton and Evergreen that will be offering shots and nasal spray free of charge on the next two Saturdays on a first-come, first-served basis.

Last free swine flu vaccine clinic in Pueblo

The H1N1 swine flu vaccine clinic this Saturday at Centennial High School in Pueblo will be the last FREE CLINIC in Pueblo. After Saturday, people will have to go to their doctor's office, pharmacy or medical clinic to be immunized. Costs at those places are running $15-$20.

Mesa County offering another H1N1 clinic that's open to anyone

Mesa County Health Department officials say there will be 2,000 H1N1 vaccine appointments available before the end of the year to anyone over six months old.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - Mesa County Health Department officials say there will be 2,000 H1N1 vaccine appointments available before the end of the year to anyone over six months old.

A total of 2,000 appointments will be available Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can start scheduling appointments Monday, Dec. 14 at 8:30 a.m. until all appointments are fillled.

You can book the appointments online or by calling the Health Department. Staff will be available to schedule appointments on Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or until appointments are filled.

An increased availability of the vaccine has allowed county officials to offer the shot to anyone, not just priority groups. Health Department officials say registered health care providers and many local pharmacies are offering the vaccine to the public. The vaccines are free through Mesa County Health Department but there may be a fee if you get the vaccine from health care providers or pharmacies.

Regular immunization and vaccine services will be served on a walk-in basis Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15. All other routine immunization activities at Mesa County Health Department will be canceled for Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Health officials say H1N1 vaccination will be limited through the end of the year due to the holidays and a mandatory County furlough day but that H1N1 vaccination services will continue in the new year as supplies allow.

Larimer County to host final H1N1 clinic

As cases of the H1N1 flu, or swine flu, level off in Colorado and nationwide, the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is holding a final H1N1 vaccination clinic in January and preparing for a possible third wave of infections later this year.

Larimer County health department spokeswoman Jane Viste said Thursday the final clinic will be Sunday at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins.

The clinic will be open to everyone and, unlike doses available at Walgreens and many other pharmacies in the county, the vaccine will be free.

"This is really a good time to be vaccinated," Viste said.

Even though infection rates are slowing, she said, history shows flu pandemics hit in three waves. So far, there have been two waves, and health officials don't know if or when the next wave of swine flu infections will hit Northern Colorado.

"The H1N1 virus is likely to continue to circulate in the winter and spring," Larimer County Health Department director Adrienne LeBailly said. "There may be a third wave of this outbreak, so this is a good time to get protected since it takes a couple of weeks after vaccination to reach maximum levels of immunity."

Viste said there could be a chance more people were infected during the holidays because many people were traveling and in close quarters with others.

But, the reported and suspected cases of swine flu have been dropping steadily for weeks now, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In Colorado, the state Department of Public Health and Environment reported Dec. 26 that flu activity statewide remains low.

Between Aug. 30, when the swine flu season began, and Dec. 26, there were a total of 1,981 flu-related hospitalizations in 54 counties statewide. Sixty of those were in Larimer County.

For the week ending Dec. 26, there were 14 flu-related hospitalizations in seven counties. None was in Larimer County.

Colorado has seen 59 confirmed flu-related deaths statewide between Aug. 30 and Dec. 26. Of those, one occurred between Dec. 20 and Dec. 26.

The Jan. 10 clinic is open to everyone older than 6 months old. Those with chronic illnesses are also welcome, Viste said.

H1N1 Vaccination Clinics Scheduled

GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- The Grand Traverse County Health Department would like to let the community know about three upcoming Walk-In H1N1 Vaccination Clinics.

The clinics are for the general public of any age. Children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Anyone needing the vaccine is encouraged to come, especially children under 10 who may still need their second dose of the vaccine. No appointments necessary.
