Flu-related death in Colorado confirmed

CANON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - A spokesperson for a Canon City hospital confirmed one person died from a flu-related illness in early 2020.

Sarah Silvernail for Centura Health could only share few details, stating that the person who died was a senior and that person died on Jan. 3.

Flu season hospitalizes thousands, 2 deaths reported at Penrose

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Flu season is in full swing in Colorado, and it’s already been deadly.

According to the state health department, more than 1,000 people have been hospitalized in Colorado since flu season started on Sept. 29. The state health department only tracks pediatric deaths and reports that one child has died.

In Colorado Springs, there have been two flu-related deaths at Penrose Hospital, according to Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. A spokesperson was not able to provide additional details about the patients’ ages or whether they had been vaccinated.

Colorado reports second child flu death of the season

DENVER — Colorado health officials reported on Wednesday the second pediatric flu death of the season.

The child was preschool-aged and died in southern Colorado, according to a report from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Colorado 6-year-old with Cystic Fibrosis passes away after getting the flu

PARK COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - The Park County coroner wants the public to know the death of a 6-year-old child was a devastating loss for the family and community.

The coroner posted a release on Friday stating the child died on Wednesday and was a "previously medically compromised individual with Cystic Fibrosis and contracted Influenza B." Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.

The child's name is not being released to the public. It isn't clear if the child had received the flu shot...
