For the week ending March 3rd, influenza activity remained about the same as the previous week. Influenza activity was present in most parts of the state, but at relatively modest levels.
• There were 42 additional hospitalizations reported, 14 from the previous week (week ending 2/25/12) and 28 from the most recent week. The cumulative total of hospitalizations is 245 from 32 counties. Due to reporting delays, it is expected that the number of influenza-associated hospitalizations for the week ending 3/03 will increase as cases diagnosed between 2/26– 3/03 are subsequently reported.

The cumulative total of hospitalizations is 280 from 35 counties. Due to reporting delays, it is expected that the number of influenza-associated hospitalizations for the week ending 3/10 will increase as cases diagnosed between 3/04– 3/10 are subsequently reported.

**Week ending 5/26/12 marked the end of the official influenza season, although reporting of influenza-like illness (ILI) will continue throughout the summer. Reporting of hospitalization and death surveillance due to influenza, testing activities by sentinels hospital labs, outbreak reporting, and virology typing at the state lab will be suspended over the summer and resume in week 40 of the 2012-13 season.
