One new adult death was reported for the week ending 2/27. A cumulative number of 69 deaths (12 pediatric and 57 adult) have been reported this season. Of the 69 deaths 84% had underlying conditions. (One death last season) for a total of 70.

Influenza activity remained at a low level similar to recent weeks, based primarily on hospitalizations, the level of influenza-like activity and sentinel laboratory testing data.
?For the week ending 3/20 there were no new confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations. The cumulative total remains at 2,029 hospitalizations from 55 counties.
?Influenza-Like Illness levels from Kaiser Permanente for the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area increased slightly from 0.76% to 0.96%.
?Sentinel labs (15/18 reporting) tested 284 specimens and 4.9% were positive. There was one new specimen that tested positive by PCR for influenza virus A (H1N1) at the state laboratory.

For the week ending 5/1 there were three new influenza-associated hospitalizations reported 2 from the current week and one from a previous week, bringing the cumulative total to 2,041 hospitalizations from 54 counties.
No new adult or pediatric deaths were reported for the week ending 5/1. A cumulative number of 69 deaths (12 pediatric and 57 adult) have been reported this season. Of the 69 deaths 84% had underlying condition.
Influenza-Like Illness levels from Kaiser Permanente for the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area continues to be below 1.0%.
Sentinel labs (16/18 reporting) tested 155 specimens and 2.6% were positive. Caution should be used when interpreting these data based on the decreasing volume of testing and the substantial likelihood of false positive results currently with use of rapid flu tests. There were two new specimens that tested positive by PCR for influenza virus A (H1N1) at the state laboratory. Overall, 99.9% of all subtypeable influenza specimens have been the pandemic H1N1 virus.
