Outbreak of Leishmaniasis in Caparrapí has its inhabitants on alert
The Secretary of Health of the department advances days of fumigation.

In dialogue with Caracol Radio, Josué Medina, a resident of the municipality of Caparrapí, Cundinamarca, recounted the difficult situation that at least 70 people are experiencing in this sector due to an outbreak of cutaneous Leishmaniasis.
“I have it on my back and there are families with four members, older adults, and children who already have advanced sores on their faces, backs, or ears. This is getting out of control and all sectors have not yet been fumigated,” said Medina.
Leishmaniasis is a disease that is transmitted by the bite of an insect that inhabits garages or reservoirs and causes a pimple or sore that sometimes becomes quite painful.
"Cutaneous leishmaniasis is the most common form of this infection, and it mostly produces ulcerative lesions that leave scars for life," says the Pan American Health Organization.
Faced with this difficult public health situation, the mayor, Gonzalo Ramírez, assured that the department is already aware of the situation. Likewise, the official asked to reinforce the fumigation days both in the rural area and in the urban area.
“I am asking for more personnel to fumigate from the Secretary of Health. The territory that the animal's flight manages is 100 meters, so it is not only fumigating the house but also the surrounding land. In what we have accounted for, there are already more than 70 people,” said the official.
In addition, the mayor assured that there is no bacteriologist, so it has not been possible to identify if there are more people with this disease.
