Cases of meningitis are on the rise in the country

Meningitis is the inflammation of the membranes of the brain and spinal cord, the cases of this disease, according to figures from the National Institute of Health, have grown by 75 percent in the country this year if compared to 2021 and Antioquia does not It is the exception, since as of July of this year, 38 cases were registered in the department and 6 deaths, while in 2021 there were no deaths and there was only a record of 9 cases.

Between January and July 2022 in Colombia, 166 people were diagnosed with this inflammation and 30 died. This disease can end the life of a person in 24 hours and some of the people who survive are left with sequelae.

Fever, headache and vomiting are some of the symptoms of meningitis. This infection can be prevented with vaccinations.
