Saltillo .- Despite speculation patients have died of diseases with symptoms similar to human influenza, the Ministry of Health in Coahuila, denies that any of them was caused by the virus AH1N1, insisting that the state maintains no deaths from this cause.
The Secretary of Sanitary Regulation, Jorge Duron reported that as of yesterday will have counted 146 confirmed cases of influenza in the state, of which 60 per cent, ie, 86 are concentrated in the town of Saltillo.
Also, disclosed that there are 838 thousand cases in surveillance, and of the 146 confirmed only 11 remain hospitalized, so the total 668 patients in surveillance are 554 in Saltillo and Torreon.
And though she said Coahuila remains in last place around national rates, there is alarm among the population and has been handled in hospitals there is a lot of patients suspected of suffering.
On the other hand, some basic educational campuses began to spread rumors that classes would be suspended the next half of October and resume until next semester, because the virus has spread rapidly.
However, the Ministry of Education and Culture has not confirmed this, while teachers remain pending instructions, as despite the instruction and training that were given, some parents say they are not being met at 100 percent.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health, insists that it is important to remain vigilant and maintain preventive measures such as frequent hand washing and sneezing etiquette.
Influenza is an illness that if treated early is usually curable, so people are encouraged, especially to chronically ill, to go immediately to the nearest health unit when they present any symptoms of disease breathing, to keep it simple and even cause death.
The influenza virus is transmitted through saliva droplets expelled by sick people talking, coughing, sneezing, sharing eating utensils or food, greet and kiss.
Survive for 48 to 72 hours on porous surfaces like hands, door handles, railings, tissues and fabrics, hence the need to wash their hands frequently.
Students with symptoms be absent 15 days
Although to date not been officially ordered the closure of educational institutions, the Ministry of Health has new guidelines to prevent infections in case of confirmed cases of human influenza in one or more students within an institution.
Now the suspension of classes if necessary should be no longer than 7 days, but two weeks.
According to authorities detailing the Ministry of Health in Coahuila, it seeks to avoid as far as possible school closures.
Although there have been closures decision either parents or teachers, none is registered with the health sector, ie was not ordered by the NCA.
The change in the guidelines is that when a child has the symptoms of the disease and be diagnosed as suspected, must be absent from their school and for seven days but not 15, this to avoid any risk of contagion and ensure that it can not spreading the virus. Francisco Elizalde visited yesterday Torreon, Coahuila health undersecretary and details on these recent changes.
Yesterday the Ministry of Health reported that at the federal level until the sixth of October is nationally had confirmed 838 cases of 35 thousand influenza A (H1/N1) in the country, of which 245 died.
