From CO Public Health: Colorado public health agencies have provided nearly 6,000 hepatitis A vaccinations to at-risk populations in an ongoing effort to mitigate an outbreak that began in October. There have been 52 cases in the outbreak so far, all among people experiencing homelessness and/or substance use issues, people who are incarcerated, and contacts of people with those risk factors...

Health officials warn of hepatitis A outbreak in Denver

DENVER ? Four people who are experiencing homelessness have been diagnosed with hepatitis A this year in Denver, including three in the past four weeks, Denver Public Health said Monday.

Denver Public Health, the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment and several service providers are ramping up education, outreach and free vaccinations in response to the new cases.

Health officials said the risk of illness to the general public is low, but hepatitis A is highly contagious and is a vaccine-preventable disease of the liver...

Colorado’s hepatitis A outbreak grows to almost 300 cases, 2 deaths
The nationwide outbreak began in 2018

The number of cases of hepatitis A in Colorado has increased to almost 300 people, with at least two deaths from the contagious liver infection, according to data from the state health department.

The rise in hepatitis A cases, which began in Colorado in 2018, is part of a larger outbreak that has sickened at least 28,609 people, killing more than 280, across the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One of the deaths in Colorado occurred in Denver, where local health officials are working to curb the number of cases through a massive vaccination campaign. The other death was in Arapahoe County in September.

Cases of Hepatitis A have also appeared in Boulder, Pueblo, Eagle and Montezuma counties. So far, there are 299 cases statewide, according to data from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment...

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — At least eight people have been diagnosed with hepatitis A in Boulder County, health officials announced Thursday. Since 2017 there has been an ongoing outbreak of hepatitis A in Colorado, and Boulder County Public Health staff are working to keep the disease from spreading.

To date in Colorado 308 people have been diagnosed with hepatitis A across 16 counties. Of those, 224 people have been hospitalized and 2 people have died...
