CL man is McHenry County's first H1N1 death
CRYSTAL LAKE ? A 50-year-old Crystal Lake man has been the first person in McHenry County whose death has been attributed to the H1N1 flu.
The man had medical conditions that increased his vulnerability to the virus, according to a news release from the McHenry County Department of Health.
Since April, Illinois has recorded 22 deaths and 542 hospitalizations, with McHenry County recording one death and 13 hospitalizations.
The county received its initial shipment of the H1N1 vaccine Oct. 16 for health care workers and first responders. More doses are expected to be shipped every week through mid-January.
In anticipation of receiving its second shipment, county officials have set up two vaccination clinics next week. Both will be by appointment only and all others will be turned away.
A children's clinic will be Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McHenry Township Office, 3703 N. Richmond Road, McHenry. This clinic will provide only the nasal spray form of the vaccine to healthy children ages 2 to 9.
An adult clinic will be Nov. 4 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Johnsburg High School, 2002 W. Ringwood Road, Johnsburg. The nasal spray vaccine will be given to healthy children ages 10 to 24, health care workers or first responders who are healthy and less than 50 years old, and caregivers of infants less than 6 months who are healthy and less than 50 years old.
