H5N1 in Egypt; H7N9 in China

[h=3]Egypt reports 2 H5N1 deaths, 3 new cases[/h] Egyptian health officials have reported the country's fourth and fifth deaths from H5N1 avian flu this year, Reuters reported today and yesterday.
The victims were a 47-year-old woman from the Asyut governorate and a 6-year-old child from Minya province. Both Asyut and Minya are rural regions located in central Egypt along the Nile.
A new human case of H5N1 was also reported in a 36-year-old woman from the Cairo governorate who is currently hospitalized, according to an update yesterday from FluTrackers, an infectious disease news message board.
Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population also confirmed four recent cases of H5N1, according to a Jan 18 Avian Flu Diary post.
The confirmed cases occurred in a 27-year-old woman from Monoufia, a 43-year-old woman from Asyut, a 3-year-old girl from Cairo governorate, and a 35-year-old woman from Sohag governorate. The 43-year-old woman has died, and the remaining three case-patients are hospitalized.
The new cases and deaths bring Egypt's H5N1 avian flu case total for this year to 20. Nine people are receiving treatment, 6 have recovered, and 5 have died, Reuters said.
In related news, Egyptian authorities have created a Supreme National Committee on Bird Flu to address the recent surge in human infections, according to an Avian Flu Diary post today. The committee will be chaired by the country's Minister of Agriculture and includes members from the governorates as well as high-level ministers from veterinary, foreign affairs, crisis management, and defense departments.

[h=3]Seven more H7N9 cases reported from China[/h] China has reported seven additional human cases of H7N9 avian influenza, one of them fatal, since Jan 16 from four different provinces, plus Shanghai, according to notices from provincial health departments, Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection (CHP), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Two of three patients from Guangdong province are children, both girls from two different cities, according to CHP reports. They include a 1-year-old from Shanwei, who has recovered, and a 3-year-old from Heyun, who has a mild infection. The other Guangdong patient is a 66-year-old man from Shenzhen.
The other case-patients include a 60-year-old man from Jiangsu province, a 69-year-old man from Shanghai, an 83-year-old man from Xinjiang province who died from his infection, and a 33-year-old woman from Zhejiang province.
Meanwhile, the WHO yesterday posted an update on 15 H7N9 case-patients reported by China as of Jan 13, two of whose cases hadn't been previously reported?an 83-year-old man from Xinjiang who died from his illness and the 33-year-old woman from Zhejiang who has been hospitalized since Dec 28 and is in critical condition.
All 15 cases covered in the WHO report have illness onsets in December, ranging from Dec 11 through Dec 26. All of the individuals are adults; three cases were fatal, all among older people aged 83, 75, and 78 years. The remaining 12 patients are hospitalized in critical condition. Patients hail from five different provinces: Fujian (5), Jiangsu (4), Zhejiang (4), Guangdong (1), and Xinjiang (1).
All but one patient were reported to have had exposure to live poultry.
The new cases lift the global total to 517, according to a case listing kept by FluTrackers, an infectious disease news message board.
