Epidemic cholera in Mali: 19 deaths in July, over 200 cases

BAMAKO - A cholera outbreak has killed 19 people at more than 200 cases in July in Mali, in the regions of Mopti (center) and Timbuktu (north), announced Wednesday the Malian health authorities.

July 16 to July 25, in the regions of Mopti and Timbuktu, there was detection of 223 cholera cases including 19 deaths. The released funds to control the epidemic, told AFP Dr. Boubacar Diarra Bogoba, the National Directorate of Health.

There were 114 cases with 11 deaths in Mopti, Timbuktu and 79 cases with 8 deaths, he said.

Bamako - A cholera outbreak in Mali in July left 19 dead and over 200 infected in the north and centre of the country, health authorities said on Wednesday.

Boubacar Bogoba Diarra of the health ministry said that from July 16 to July 25, 223 cases of cholera were detected in the Mopti and Timbuktu regions, while 19 people died.

He added that 114 cases and 11 deaths were recorded in Mopti, while in the Timbuktu area there were 79 cases and eight deaths...

Aug. 8 (Bloomberg) -- The death toll in Mali's cholera outbreak climbed to 29 people, with 552 total cases reported, said Diallo Madeleine Ba, the country's minister of health.

Epidemic cholera in Mali: 36 deaths since July

BAMAKO - The cholera epidemic in Mali in July caused the deaths of 36 people at more than 880 cases identified, told AFP Wednesday at the Ministry of Health.

As of August 23, there were 882 cases reported in the territory, including 36 deaths, said Dr. Bogoba Diarra, Head of Information Unit at the National Board of Health under the Ministry.

According to Dr Diarra, health services, however, have seen a decline in the epidemic since its onset in July.

The disease is in sharp decline. At first they were documenting 150 cases a week, now they identify less than 80 cases a week, he said, indicating that further actions were taken on the ground for the treatment of patients and the large-scale awareness.
