China's measles incidence rate drops to record low in 2011

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- China has made remarkable progress in measles prevention as the measles incidence rate over the past 11 months dropped to record low, Health Ministry spokesman Deng Haihua said Tuesday.

China has reported a total of 9,976 measles cases by the end of November, down 73.6 percent from the same period last year, Deng said.

The measles incidence rate dropped to 7.5 cases per 1 million people.

He said China had ranked the first in the world for years in terms of measles incidence rate before 2010, which compels the country to enhance prevention measures, Deng said.
