December 15, 2025, 21:00

What should I do if I still feel very tired and fatigued after recovering from the flu, and I still have a persistent cough?
Academician Zhong Nanshan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering stated: "After contracting influenza, secondary bacterial infections often occur. These secondary infections, such as acute bronchitis, are not caused by viruses but by bacteria, resulting in thick sputum, sinusitis, thick nasal discharge, and even coughing up blood. This is a secondary infection, and it's generally something to be aware of. For one or two weeks, fatigue or a poor appetite is common. However, if these symptoms persist after three weeks, it warrants attention. "
Zhong Nanshan warned that if a flu patient has a fever of 39°C or higher that persists for three days, rapid breathing, severe coughing, or even coughing up blood, these are all signs that the condition may be worsening and they should seek medical attention immediately.
Recently, influenza is prevalent. According to the China CDC on December 8th, based on the latest monitoring data, the peak influenza season is expected to begin nationwide in early to mid-December . The H3N2 subtype of influenza A remains dominant, accounting for over 95% of cases , with small amounts of H1N1 and influenza B viruses circulating concurrently. Influenza viruses spread rapidly, and outbreaks are prone to occur in densely populated places such as schools, kindergartens, and nursing homes. The number of influenza outbreaks this season is significantly higher than the previous season.
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reminds the elderly, those with chronic diseases, children, and pregnant women to minimize their time spent in crowded, enclosed spaces and to take good care of their personal health. In light of the influenza epidemic situation and the multi-disease prevention strategy, to minimize the harm of influenza, priority is given to recommending influenza vaccination for key and high-risk groups.
