Regarding the prevention and control of infectious diseases in autumn and winter, which are of concern to citizens

And answer questions about vaccination.

Zhang Jun, deputy director of Yangzhou Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Municipal Health Supervision Institute) , said that the current focus should be on preventing two types of infectious diseases: first, vector-borne infectious diseases, including dengue fever and chikungunya caused by mosquito bites, and fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome caused by tick bites; second, respiratory infectious diseases, such as influenza.

Regarding respiratory infectious diseases, monitoring data shows that COVID-19 infection is currently showing a significant downward trend, but influenza virus activity has begun to emerge.

To prevent respiratory infectious diseases, do three things: wash your hands frequently, wear a mask, and keep the environment well-ventilated.

Zhang Jun pointed out that September to November is the optimal window for influenza vaccination. Because the influenza virus mutates rapidly, with different strains circulating each year, and because vaccine-protective antibodies typically last for 6 to 8 months, it is recommended that key populations such as the elderly, teenagers, and medical personnel get vaccinated annually to ensure effective protection throughout the winter and spring flu season.

In response to vector-borne infectious diseases, Wang Yin, head of the Acute Infectious Disease Control Section of the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, advised citizens to take precautions against mosquitoes and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds such as stagnant water. When engaging in outdoor activities in hilly and mountainous areas, people should wear long sleeves and trousers and shower and check themselves promptly upon returning home to prevent tick bites.

Prepare mosquito repellent gear, such as mosquito repellent bracelets and repellent sprays. If you suspect you've been bitten by mosquitoes and develop symptoms such as fever, fatigue, joint pain, or a rash, seek medical attention at a large medical institution promptly and inform the doctor of your travel history.

Regarding parents' concerns about HPV vaccination, Liang Jie, head of the Immunization Planning Department of the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stated that girls who meet the national age requirements can receive the free bivalent HPV vaccine. If parents have higher expectations, they can voluntarily choose to receive the quadrivalent or nonavalent HPV vaccine at their own expense; citizens can choose flexibly based on their own circumstances.

In terms of immunization efficacy, data studies have shown that girls aged 9-14 who receive the HPV vaccine produce antibody levels more than twice that of people over 15 years old. Receiving the HPV vaccine at age 13 can result in higher antibody levels and longer-lasting protection, maximizing the vaccine's ability to prevent HPV infection.
