Beijing, 17 Apr 10:20 - (Agenzia Nova) - China has confirmed a new case of African swine fever (ASF) in the eastern province of Jiangsu: the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Beijing reported today. The virus, detected in Muyang County, was detected in 17 pigs illegally transported from outside the province. The disease has already killed three of the pigs, explained the ministry. First detected in China in August 2018, African swine fever reduced the number of pigs in the country by nearly 50 percent. On March 3, the ministry announced that it had detected the African swine fever virus in a boar from the Chinese province of Hubei. The ministry reported that seven wild boars were found dead in the Shennongjia forest district in the northwest of the province. The Chinese Institute of Veterinary Research in Harbin, the leading national animal disease research center, said it had developed an African swine fever vaccine that proved to be safe and effective in laboratory tests.
