On a hot day, what phone number is the most "hot"? 120.
Since the start of the dog days of summer, the heatwave in Shanghai has intensified, with the city receiving over 10,000 calls to the 120 emergency hotline daily . The daily number of ambulance dispatches has surged from a regular 3,000 to 4,300-4,400, peaking at over 4,600. On average, an ambulance rushes out every 20 seconds.
But many people don't realize that after dialing 120, every word and every action is crucial in securing the "golden window" before the ambulance arrives. Recently, the "Employee Health Cloud Lecture" column of the Labor Daily visited the Shanghai Municipal Medical Emergency Dispatch and Command Center to uncover what's happening behind every call on this vital "lifeline."
After calling 120, explain this information.
Stepping into the dispatch and command center, you are immediately greeted by a screen full of flashing distress signals and the incessant ringing of telephones.

Nearly 220 emergency medical stations, more than 1,300 ambulances, and over 4,400 emergency personnel across the city are on standby 24 hours a day. Dispatchers here work 12-hour shifts, with each person answering approximately 300 calls per shift during peak periods. "Eating and using the restroom are done in shifts, because we need to keep this lifeline constantly open," said Shao Yun, director of the communications department at the Shanghai Medical Emergency Dispatch and Command Center .
