China stock markets continue nosedive as regulator warns of panic - July 8, 2015

This looks like a meltdown.....

snip
Mainland Chinese stocks tumbled sharply on Wednesday as sell orders piled up in an increasingly fragile market where an unprecedented 51 per cent of all listed shares are now voluntarily suspended from trade, locking up some US$2.2 trillion of previously tradeable market capitalisation.

As shareholders are mostly small scale domestic retailers and citizens, soemthing has triggered this wholesale loss in confidence. Once started it becomes a spiral. My question is, what has triggered this? I am not seeing much plausible explanation anywhere in these reports?? Caveat: no expert in finance markets. Perhaps someone can elucidate?

My understanding is that a bubble has popped, just like happened in the USA in 1929 or the early 2000s. And from what I've read on this, large number of people have been buying Chinese stocks on margin, so the market continues to decline as people sell stocks to meet their margin calls.

1) Weaker economic growth in China, plus,

2) A market correction as the Shanghai market has run up 150% in the last year, plus

3) Popularity of margin trading, plus

4) Yuan is not allowed to float on world currency markets, plus

4) Lack of faith in China government (i.e, secret jails, no freedom of press, etc.)
