Recently, a netizen posted a video saying that a supermarket in Zhecheng County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province was rumored to be closing down. A large number of customers rushed into the supermarket to buy food. Some people directly tore open the food packaging and ate and drank at the same time, and the scene was in a mess. On September 7, the local Cyberspace Administration responded that the information about the supermarket closing down was a rumor. The Cyberspace Administration and the Public Security Bureau have interviewed the main body of the rumor-mongering account.
According to China News Weekly, on September 6, staff at the supermarket said that since September 4, many customers have come to the supermarket to queue up for shopping after hearing rumors that the supermarket was going to close down. The customer flow was several times that of usual days, and the business hours were forced to be extended to 12 o'clock in the evening. The police were on the scene to control the situation.
The staff member said, "Most customers use recharge cards to make their purchases. There is no large-scale theft or robbery, but there are indeed a lot of people eating and drinking (in the supermarket)."
At present, the supermarket's products have been sold out, and the losses are still being calculated. The supermarket issued an announcement that it will suspend business for a few days starting from September 6 and resume business after stocking up on goods.
