Beijing, Sept. 30 (PTI):
China today said a new bird flu outbreak in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has killed nearly 1,000 chickens.
The national bird flu laboratory confirmed yesterday that the H5N1 virus was found in the samples of the dead poultry in a village of Baotou, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said here.
The H5N1 strain of bird flu had killed 985 chickens. Another 8,990 chickens had been culled to control the outbreak. The local agricultural department had quarantined the infected area and the outbreak was under control, Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry as saying. China has reported over 25 cases of bird flu in poultry, resulting in the culling of nearly 30 million chickens, ducks and geese.
The H5N1 virus has also killed 14 people in China since 2003.
