"I never imagined that from now on, whether I'm dragging my suitcase just landing or want to relieve my shoulders, neck, and back pain before boarding, I won't have to make a special trip to the city anymore . I can get a massage and treatment right at the airport , and I can even use my medical insurance! "
On July 29 , Hangzhou Airport welcomed the first TCM clinic in a national airport with more than 10 million passengers – Qiubenshanlan TCM Health Life Hall.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic is located on the second floor of Terminal 4, covering an area of 360 square meters. It features a Chinese herbal tea and coffee area, a health and wellness treatment area, and a Chinese medicine cultural and creative product area, integrating medical treatment, leisure, and shopping.
The center offers traditional Chinese medicine services such as consultations by renowned doctors, acupuncture and massage, and Sanfu Patch therapy for treating winter ailments in summer, while also incorporating modern technologies such as AI facial diagnosis devices and AI massage techniques. In addition to two licensed physicians on staff daily
, renowned veteran TCM doctors hold consultations on an irregular basis.

Meanwhile, the TCM clinic project has been included in the medical insurance service system. Starting from August 1, travelers can use their medical insurance to settle accounts and enjoy inclusive services such as TCM diagnosis and treatment and rehabilitation therapy, effectively lowering the threshold for health consumption .

The introduction of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) into airport terminals is not an isolated case at Hangzhou Airport. In just over a year, the "airport + TCM" model has taken root in many parts of the country .
As early as April 2025 , Changbaishan Airport put into operation the nation's first aviation-based traditional Chinese medicine clinic , which was jointly built by the airport and Baishan Hospital affiliated to Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It integrates diagnosis and treatment, health care, popular science, and promotion of medicinal materials.

The center is divided into functional areas such as free clinics, moxibustion and massage, and pulse diagnosis, with key physicians on duty. On holidays, department directors also provide free clinics. In the summer, a "mobile health station" is launched, offering services such as pulse diagnosis, blood pressure and blood sugar testing, ear acupressure, and massage for relaxation, along with health-preserving teas for dehumidification, cold and flu relief, and weight loss. During the Spring Festival, ear acupressure, shoulder and neck massage, and customized conditioning programs are offered to address issues such as liver qi stagnation and excessive dampness.

It's worth mentioning that this traditional Chinese medicine clinic also serves as an "air gateway" for Changbai Mountain ginseng to reach the whole country . During the expansion of Terminal 2 , the airport added professional cold storage facilities suitable for the cold chain storage of fresh ginseng, opened a dedicated JD Express line, and set up service points and smart lockers to provide door-to-door pickup and delivery. This single TCM clinic has connected three links: medical services, cultural dissemination, and local industry.
In November 2025 , the "Traditional Chinese Medicine Digital Kiosk" officially debuted at Beijing Capital International Airport, focusing on technological experience and immersive communication. Passengers can experience the "Four Diagnostic Instruments" for free, including facial diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, and pulse diagnosis. Pharmacists demonstrate the ancient technique of "handmade honey pill making" on-site, and the aroma of medicinal herbs attracts many passengers to take photos.

In October 2025 , Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and Xiamen Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine signed a strategic cooperation agreement to create a new integrated service model of " aviation + medical care + [health care" . The agreement will introduce TCM culture experience and brand promotion activities within the airport and open a green channel for medical care for passengers.

In addition, airports such as Huai'an Airport, Jinan Airport, and Changde Airport have also partnered with local TCM hospitals to introduce TCM services into their terminals through free clinics and health consultations.
On July 17, 2026 , Huai'an Airport, in collaboration with Huai'an Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine , launched a public welfare event for TCM health consultations. Experts from the cardiology, massage, obstetrics and gynecology, and general surgery departments provided consultations at the terminal. Doctors offered on-site thyroid ultrasound examinations and interpreted reports, while specialty physiotherapy services such as scraping and ear acupressure attracted many passengers to queue up for the experience.

Another advantage of airports is the dual value of "traffic volume" and "scenarios ." China's airports with over 10 million passengers annually handle more than 10 million passengers, with top airports like Hangzhou Airport and Beijing Capital Airport handling tens of millions. Such massive passenger traffic provides a level of natural exposure that no traditional Chinese medicine clinic can match.
“The airport is a window, with hundreds of thousands of people passing through every day. Even if only one percent of them walk in, sit down, and give it a try, a seed of traditional Chinese medicine culture will be planted,” said Li Xiaoying, deputy general manager of Zhejiang Airport Commercial Company.

The rapid expansion of the medical tourism market also provides a macroeconomic backdrop. China's medical tourism market is projected to reach over 500 billion yuan by 2030. Taking Hangzhou Airport as an example, it handled 50.46 million passengers in 2025 , surpassing the 50 million mark for the first time , including over 5.3 million inbound and outbound passengers, with foreign passenger arrivals increasing by 28.6% year-on-year .

Hangzhou Airport's solution is: powered facial diagnosis devices improve efficiency, medical insurance settlement lowers the barrier to entry, and renowned doctors hold regular consultations to ensure quality. Whether this combination of measures can stand the test of time remains to be seen. But at least, it has opened a door.

The first traditional Chinese medicine clinic at a major airport with tens of millions of passengers has opened. It's foreseeable that this won't be the last one.
