Ningxia conducts comprehensive emergency drills for multiple disasters in scenic areas to strengthen the safety of cultural and tourism industries.

Yinchuan, August 18 (China News Service reporter Li Peishan) -- On August 18, an emergency response drill for flood prevention, geological disaster prevention, and forest and grassland fire prevention and control was conducted at the Helan Mountain National Forest Park in Ningxia, a national A-level tourist attraction in Ningxia. The drill focused on the disaster characteristics of the Helan Mountain area, realistically simulating scenarios involving multiple overlapping risks such as flash floods, landslides, and forest fires caused by lightning strikes. Multiple departments worked together to complete a full set of practical exercises, including reporting emergencies, issuing early warnings, evacuating tourists, and providing rescue and relief.
We are currently in the critical period of flood prevention, known as the "late July to early August" period, characterized by frequent short-term heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The Helan Mountains are characterized by numerous valleys and a concentrated distribution of scenic spots and rural tourist destinations, presenting a complex mix of risks including flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and forest fires, placing significant pressure on the safety and security of cultural and tourism venues. This drill, drawing on the local "8.25" flood emergency at Shuidonggou and typical cases of flash flood disasters in various scenic areas across the country, integrated cautionary education into practical exercises, specifically addressing shortcomings in emergency response for tourism-related scenarios.
The drill focused on the practical safety needs of the cultural and tourism industry during the flood season, clarifying key work directions such as hazard investigation, early warning response, contingency plan optimization, material support, and duty supervision. After the drill, various regions will conduct a comprehensive risk investigation of scenic spots, rural tourism demonstration sites, graded homestays, and camping bases. For high-risk areas such as those near water, cliffs, valleys, and riverbanks, records will be established and closed-loop rectification implemented. Illegal camping sites along rivers and gullies will be cleaned up and rectified, and strict closure and control measures will be implemented for major safety hazards.
As required, all regions in Ningxia will continue to improve the cross-departmental early warning and linkage closed-loop mechanism. Once an orange or higher-level disaster warning is triggered, strict measures will be implemented, including closing scenic areas, clearing all mountainous areas, and evacuating people to safe locations. At the same time, all regions will urge cultural and tourism operators to revise their specific emergency plans, abandoning template-based plans and formalistic drills, ensuring adequate emergency rescue supplies, strengthening the emergency response capabilities of frontline personnel, strictly implementing 24-hour duty shifts, and providing tourists with safety tips for traveling during the flood season.
A relevant official from Ningxia's cultural and tourism department stated that the response procedures developed in this drill will be transformed into routine management measures to strengthen industry supervision and corporate responsibility, strictly prevent safety risks arising from extreme weather, geological disasters, and forest fires, resolutely prevent major tourism-related safety accidents, safeguard the lives and property of tourists, and ensure the stable and orderly operation of the cultural and tourism industry.
