Local officials reported that at least five people were killed and one person was injured in the blast in Tianmen, near Wuhan, near China. The explosion rocked an industrial park at 2:15 p.m. China time (5:15 a.m. KST) Monday.

... It also showed thick yellow smoke billowing from the facility, which one local said could indicate a nitric acid leak.

Authorities in Hubei have claimed that the facility produces pharmaceuticals that are used to make treatments and medicines.

An explosion at a chemical plant in the central Chinese province of Hubei has killed five people and injured one.

... The notice said the plant was owned by the Tianmen Chutian Fine Chemical Company, which develops and produces pharmaceutical intermediates that are used in manufacturing drugs. An explosion occurred while the equipment at the chemical plant was being tested.

... According to its website, the company was founded in 1997 and had moved into the Yuekou Industrial Park in 2011.
Its advertised chemical products include dichloroacetamide and cyanoacetamide, which are considered hazardous.

(Looks like two different explosion here. Emily's post from the 25th of September's explosion, and my posts from Monday evening, the 28th.
I should have posted my two articles on a separate thread.)
 
Truly tragic that lives are being lost like this trying to respond to the pandemic.
