Multiple cities ease requirements for COVID-19 testing, as residents start to stockpile self-test kits
By Global TimesPublished: Dec 03, 2022 07:41 PM

At least 10 major Chinese cities have announced the ending of requirements for the checking of 48-hour valid COVID-19 test results for riding public transport. Some cities have also ended testing requirements for entering public venues as many localities continued to optimize their epidemic responses over the weekend.

Cities adjusting policies include Chengdu, Tianjin, Dalian, Shijiazhuang and Shenzhen.

Shenzhen, the technology and manufacturing hub in South China's Guangdong Province, issued a statement early Saturday, confirming that residents will no longer need to provide nucleic acid test certificates when entering public places such as pharmacies, parks, and outdoor tourist attractions, as well as taking public transports, but will still need to scan a venue code to check in, and show their green health code. Residents will still need to show nucleic acid test results when visiting farmer's markets.

The megacity Guangzhou has also lifted a number of restrictions, including ending test result requirements for pharmacies.

On December 18, the General Office of the Chongqing Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters issued a notice on further optimizing epidemic prevention and control measures. The original text of the notice is as follows:

In order to conscientiously implement the requirements of the "Notice on Further Optimizing the Implementation of New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic Prevention and Control Measures" (Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism Zongfa [2022] No. 113) issued by the Comprehensive Group of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, the focus of work will shift from infection prevention to health care , prevent severe disease, promote development, and further facilitate the production and life of the masses, with the approval of the Chongqing Municipal Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters, the relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:

1. It is recommended not to do nucleic acid if it is not necessary, and not to check the negative certificate of nucleic acid test if it is not necessary. Except for special places such as elderly care institutions, welfare homes, prisons, childcare institutions, and primary and secondary schools, other places will no longer check for negative nucleic acid test certificates. Party and government agencies at all levels, enterprises and institutions in Chongqing took the lead in no longer checking negative nucleic acid test certificates (except for meetings and activities with special requirements). Except for newly admitted patients and accompanying staff who need to check the nucleic acid test results, all medical institutions will no longer check the negative nucleic acid test certificate.

2. Advocate no sampling and no medication for asymptomatic patients. Asymptomatic and mildly ill cadres and employees of party and government agencies at all levels, enterprises and institutions in Chongqing can go to work normally after taking personal protection according to their physical conditions and job needs.

Encourage the formation of community drug distribution teams to distribute simple medical kits under the guidance of medical institutions according to the application of drug use by the masses, so as to effectively guarantee the drug needs of the masses.

5. All districts and counties (autonomous counties) continue to maintain a moderate amount of convenient nucleic acid sampling points to meet the needs of the masses for nucleic acid testing.

6. Further strengthen personal protection, advocate that all people wear masks, participate in group activities, enter public places, take public transportation, etc. to wear masks; advocate that all people get vaccinated, and accelerate the vaccination of the elderly and strengthen immunization.
