[h=1]Emergency response launched after H7N9 virus leaves 1 dead in Xiamen[/h]
The Xiamen government has launched an emergency response plan against the H7N9-strain of avian flu after a 12-year-old H7N9-infected patient died in hospital on Tuesday morning.

Xiamen has recently reported 5 H7N9-infected patients. Four of them are locals and one is from Quanzhou.

Of the 5 patients, one was discharged from the hospital and a 12-year-old student with the virus died on January 13th. The other three patients are currently in critical condition in local hospitals.

Starting on January 12th, Xiamen required everyone in Siming District to suspend live poultry trade, causing the live poultry trade in the city to see further declines since the initial decline in sales after the first confirmed H7N9 cases were announced in Xiamen.
