Huasheng Online, July 20th (Text/Video All Media Reporter Li Qi, Intern Zuo Yiting, Chen Huina, Correspondent Chen Zhihong) There is still a high risk of bird flu in animals in summer, and humans are at risk of being infected with bird flu. On July 20, the Health and Education Center of the Hunan Provincial Health and Health Commission issued a bird flu prevention guideline.
People with high risk of bird flu
Avian influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by certain subtypes of influenza A virus that infects birds. Most avian influenza viruses do not infect humans. Currently, the subtypes of avian influenza viruses that can cause human illness mainly include H5, H7, H9, and H10; among them, subtypes such as H5N1, H7N9, and H10N8 can cause severe pneumonia after infecting humans.
People are generally susceptible to avian influenza virus, and the common high-risk groups mainly include: poultry farmers and their family members who live together; workers who transport, sell and slaughter poultry; scientific research or quarantine personnel who come into contact with poultry samples or avian influenza virus; people who raise poultry at home or have close contact with poultry during an outbreak of avian influenza; people who are used to eating raw poultry or eggs.
How Bird Flu Spreads
Avian influenza virus can be transmitted through the respiratory tract, close contact and digestive tract.
1. Respiratory tract: Avian influenza virus belongs to type A influenza virus, which is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract. Avian influenza virus mainly infects poultry, and can also infect mammals such as pigs, horses and humans through the respiratory tract, digestive tract and close contact.
2. Close contact: When people raise or slaughter poultry animals such as chickens with avian influenza, the avian influenza virus in the sick poultry may be transmitted to humans through close contact, resulting in avian influenza infection.
3. Digestive tract: If humans eat poultry infected with avian influenza virus, if they are not fully cooked, the avian influenza virus may be transmitted to humans through the digestive tract.
What are the clinical features of human infection with avian influenza?
The incubation period is mostly within 7 days, usually 2-4 days, and some of them exceed 10 days. According to the virus subtype and the patient's condition, the symptoms have very obvious individual differences. Some may only have mild respiratory symptoms or ocular conjunctivitis; severe systemic reactions may occur in severe cases, which may be fatal.
Typical clinical symptoms and signs of human infected with avian influenza: acute onset, similar to common influenza in the early stage, mainly manifested as fever, with body temperature above 39°C for several days; runny nose, nasal congestion, cough, sore throat; obvious systemic symptoms, accompanied by headache, muscle aches, etc.; some patients have nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms.
Severely ill patients may develop persistent high fever and the disease progresses rapidly. Almost all patients presented with overt pneumonia and acute lung injury, leading to a series of serious complications.
If human infection with avian influenza is not timely and effectively treated, the disease will progress rapidly and the following complications may occur: acute respiratory distress syndrome; circulatory failure; renal failure; multiple organ dysfunction syndrome; disseminated intravascular coagulation; severe septic shock.
How to prevent human infection with bird flu?
1. A healthy lifestyle is very important. Strengthen physical exercise, pay attention to rest, and avoid overwork; maintain a balanced diet and pay attention to intake of foods rich in vitamin C; pay attention to personal hygiene, and cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.
2. Keep the room clean. Keep the floor, ceiling, furniture and walls clean; keep indoor air circulation, open windows twice a day for at least 10 minutes each time or use an exhaust fan to maintain air circulation; try to go to places with no air circulation as much as possible.
3. Pay attention to food hygiene. When eating poultry meat and eggs, cook them thoroughly, do not eat raw or half-cooked eggs, and separate raw and cooked foods when processing and storing food; develop good hygiene habits, improve kitchen hygiene, do not eat raw poultry meat and internal organs, and wash hands thoroughly after dissecting live (dead) poultry, livestock and their products.
4. Try to avoid contact with poultry, especially children should avoid close contact with poultry and wild birds. Try to buy quarantined poultry products in regular markets; wash your hands frequently, stay away from poultry secretions, and clean your hands thoroughly with disinfectant and water if you have been in contact with poultry or poultry droppings.
5. Pay attention to the disinfection of living utensils. Avian influenza virus is heat-labile and can be inactivated in 2 minutes at 100°C. It is sensitive to common disinfectants such as drying, ultraviolet radiation, mercury, and chlorine.
6. Don't take colds lightly. Symptoms after human infection with bird flu are similar to those of influenza, such as fever, headache, cough and sore throat, etc. In some cases, complications may result, leading to death of the patient. In case of fever, headache, nasal congestion, cough, general malaise and other respiratory symptoms, you should wear a surgical mask or N95 mask, go to the hospital as soon as possible and treat and take medication under the guidance of a doctor.
