The Health Bureau (SSM) announced last night that because of the Ebola outbreak in western Africa, passport holders from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone arriving in Macau will have to undergo health checks.
According to the announcement, the measure started at 9 p.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, nationals from the three countries will have to submit themselves to a health check by Health Bureau officials at the border checkpoints.
Those suspected of carrying the Ebola virus will undergo strict isolation for follow-up checks. Those not showing any symptoms of the highly infectious and potentially fatal disease will be contacted by telephone on a daily basis during their stay here.
According to international news wire reports, about 90 percent of Ebola sufferers died of the disease.(macaunews/macaupost)
