Jiangxi Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission communications: After entering the winter and spring of influenza and other respiratory diseases high season, the province stepped up surveillance of influenza, severe pneumonia. In routine monitoring, from one case of severe pneumonia cases detected H5N6 avian influenza virus nucleic acid positive. January 7, the Chinese Center for Disease Control to review the detection of viral nucleic acids identified as H5N6 positive. Provincial expert group on the basis of the clinical cases, laboratory testing and epidemiological findings, the diagnosis of the case confirmed cases of H5N6.

Patients, male, 42 years old, currently residing in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, has a history of contact with live poultry business market exposure history. December 21 due to fully died in a hospital in Ganzhou. All close contacts did not appear abnormal.

Experts judged the view that this case appears as sporadic cases, the lower the risk of spreading the virus at this stage.

Considering the H5N6 cases in the last two weeks in Guangdong Province and recently the H7N9 case confirmed in Jieyang City, better warnings of vigilance should have been posted prior to China CDC's confirmation from Jiangxi HFPC .

IHR guidelines Hmmmm..... public situation awareness is paramount for vigilance!

Under routine surveillance of the Health and Family Planning Commission of Jiangxi Province, a severe pneumonia case tested positive for H5N6 virus. It involves a 42-year-old man who lived in Jieyang, Guangdong, with exposure to poultry market. He died on December 21, 2015, in a hospital in Ganzhou, Jiangxi. No abnormalities were detected among his close contacts.
