A large number of cases have recently appeared! One hospital has seen nearly 90 patients in a week. Meteorological experts say that the combination of high temperature, high humidity, and heavy rainfall has created a favorable breeding environment, and these locations should be avoided.

recently,
Many friends on social media platforms posted that,
I found rove beetles in my home.
The Second Hospital of Hebei Province, for more than a week,
We treated 89 patients with rove beetle dermatitis.
Are there really more rove beetles now?
Why have these phenomena occurred so frequently recently?
The Hebei Provincial Meteorological Observatory provides the following meteorological interpretation:
Why are there so many rove beetles lately?
Climate is a key factor
Many people believe that rove beetles only appear in the south, but this is not true. Rove beetles are not a "southern species migrating north." They are also distributed in the north, and their distribution range is quite wide. They are attracted to light, and forests, grasslands, and farmlands can all be their habitats. The active season for rove beetles is from June to September each year. Not all rove beetles are poisonous. Common poisonous rove beetles are usually red and black in color, and their body fluids contain a strong acidic compound called pedaginin. Skin contact with rove beetles can cause rove beetle dermatitis.
The increase in the number of rove beetles this year is mainly due to the climate providing them with a breeding window. Rove beetles prefer warm, humid, and stuffy environments, and the combination of "high temperature + high humidity + rain" falls right into their breeding comfort zone.
1. Temperature and humidity are within the "comfort zone".
The optimal temperature for rove beetles to be active is 20-30℃ and humidity is 60%-80%, with summer and autumn being their active seasons; their activity increases after rain when humidity rises.
2. Excessive rainfall = a breeding ground
Recently, there has been a significant increase in rove beetle dermatitis cases compared to previous years, which is directly related to the excessive rainfall and humid, hot weather in Hebei Province.
3. Delayed autumn cooling = longer active window
The delayed cooling in the north, coupled with abundant rainfall, has provided optimal conditions for the reproduction and survival of rove beetles.
4. Supporting evidence from meteorological research
Related studies have shown that if a year of high temperature and drought is followed by a year with increased rainfall and humid climate, the population of rove beetles will rebound significantly or even explode.
High-risk areas in urban and rural areas should be avoided.
You are most likely to encounter rove beetles in these scenarios: daily outings and home life. Please pay close attention.
Outdoor scenes: park grass, roadside green belts, farmland, ditches, places where fallen leaves accumulate, and suburban woodlands;
Indoor scenes: around green plants, in corners near windows;
High-risk periods: evenings after rain, evenings when people are cooling off, and muggy, windless, overcast or rainy days.
