According to Dajiang News, to further standardize the hospital management process for patients infected with multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRs), improve the hospital infection emergency response system, and strengthen multi-departmental collaborative capabilities, Jiujiang Third People's Hospital recently conducted an emergency drill for the prevention and control of MDRs. The drill was commanded by Vice President Chen Zhiwei, with the participation of multiple departments including the Infection Control Department, Public Health Department, Medical Affairs Department, Nursing Department, Laboratory Department, and Pharmacy Department. The entire process was standardized, efficient, and well-coordinated.


Prior to the drill, the Infection Control Department developed a detailed emergency drill plan, focusing on high-risk scenarios such as patients with multidrug-resistant bacteria going out for examinations, transfers to other departments, and surgeries. The plan systematically reviewed each aspect, including reporting, emergency response, prevention and control implementation, inter-departmental communication and collaboration, and personal protection, identifying potential problems in the process and refining the handling procedures to lay a solid foundation for the successful implementation of the live-action drill.

The drill simulated a scenario where three cases of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection occurred within a short period in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. After assessing a potential hospital-acquired infection outbreak, the department immediately initiated reporting procedures. Clinical medical staff quickly identified the abnormalities, verified case information, and promptly completed the hierarchical reporting process. Wang Liping, head of the Infection Control Department, immediately led a team of experts from multiple departments to the ward to conduct on-site investigation and assessment. After confirming a suspected multidrug-resistant bacterial infection outbreak, the department immediately reported to the command center and activated the hospital infection emergency response plan.


Following the start of the drill, the hospital quickly assembled a team of technical experts to conduct multidisciplinary joint consultations, accurately assess the patients' conditions, and develop personalized treatment plans to ensure the best possible care for the patients. The infection control team conducted in-depth epidemiological investigations and environmental hygiene testing in the wards, comprehensively investigating the source of infection, transmission routes, and high-risk factors. In response to the identified issues, the hospital immediately implemented precise prevention and control measures, strictly enforcing patient contact isolation protocols, ensuring that items were used by designated personnel and disinfected after each use; increasing the frequency of disinfection of the ward environment and surfaces to completely cut off transmission routes; and conducting specialized training for all staff to standardize aseptic procedures, occupational protection, and medical waste disposal processes. Simultaneously, the nursing department implemented personalized and meticulous nursing care, the medical affairs department provided follow-up medical services and emotional support, and the laboratory, pharmacy, equipment, and general affairs departments ensured the supply of testing materials, medications, and equipment throughout the process, comprehensively strengthening the prevention and control defenses. Ultimately, no new infection cases were confirmed, and the emergency response was successfully completed.

After the drill, Chen Zhiwei summarized and commented on the entire process. He pointed out that the drill simulated a real scenario, with excellent teamwork and appropriate response measures, comprehensively improving the ability of various departments to handle patients with multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and achieving the expected results. In future multidrug-resistant bacterial infection prevention and control work, the prevention and control focus should be extended to medical staff themselves and the entire treatment environment, integrating the prevention and control requirements of "early detection, early reporting, early isolation, and early treatment" into the entire daily treatment process; it is necessary to continuously deepen the multi-departmental linkage mechanism, refine the prevention and control responsibility list, target weak links for rectification, and continuously improve the refinement, scientification, and standardization of hospital infection prevention and control to resolutely prevent hospital infection outbreaks.

This drill effectively tested the emergency response capabilities of Jiujiang Third People's Hospital in handling multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and standardized the prevention and control procedures for patients undergoing outpatient examinations. Moving forward, the hospital will routinely conduct specialized infection control drills, implementing infection control requirements in every aspect of medical care, continuously strengthening the infection control safety net, and strictly safeguarding patient safety to ensure the hospital's high-quality development.
