Emergency drill for nosocomial infection outbreak



In order to improve the emergency response capacity of our hospital's medical staff for nosocomial infection outbreaks, master the reporting procedures and control measures, and in accordance with the requirements of the tertiary general hospital level review, the Infection Management Office will organize the nosocomial infection at 2:30 pm on March 26, 2021 Outbreak emergency drill.



At 2:35 pm, the drill officially began.



2:35pm

The Department of Orthopedics received a call from the Department of Laboratory Medicine to report 1 case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and also reported that 3 cases had been detected within this week, suspecting an outbreak of hospital infection.



2:37pm

The Infection Management Office received a call from the Department of Orthopedics to report that there were 3 consecutive cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) patients who had been cultured with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the past week.



2:50 pm

The director of the infection management office led the staff of the undergraduate room to the orthopedics department, checked the patient's medical records and examination sheets, and listened to the department's case report.

After analysis and comprehensive research and judgment, it was initially identified as a suspected nosocomial infection outbreak. Zhou Han, the vice-president of the telephone report, decided to activate the emergency response plan for the nosocomial infection outbreak after listening to the report, requiring prompt notification of the medical department, nursing department, laboratory medicine department, and medical department at the same time. The Department of Pharmacy, Logistics Department, and Quality Control Office rushed to the scene to participate in the treatment.

Relevant personnel arrive at the scene, the medical department organizes consultations and treatment of patients, the nursing department guides the arrangement of nursing staff and the centralized placement of patients, the laboratory medicine department guides specimen inspection, the pharmacy department guides patients to use drugs, the logistics department arranges cleaning and disinfection of the ward, and the infection management office provides guidance Implement control measures and organize monitoring and sampling of the surrounding environment, and the Quality Control Office will make overall coordination. And simulated cleaning staff to disinfect the isolation ward, and security guards assisted in placing 3 patients in the isolation ward.

At the end of the exercise, personnel from various departments evaluated and summarized the exercise and put forward suggestions for improvement. And issue test papers for nosocomial infection outbreaks to assess the knowledge of medical staff.


This exercise is based on past real cases, adding content related to hospital infections, and adjusting the time node to enhance the sense of reality and increase the participation of doctors. The exercise strengthened the multi-departmental collaboration capabilities of medical affairs, nursing, inspection, pharmacy, logistics, and quality control.
