Poultry Markets Close in Shenzhen Following Death
The recent bird flu epidemic has also been affecting markets on the other side of the Taiwan Strait. Shenzhen City Government officials reported a human death due to the H5N7 strain of bird flu on Jan 21. The local city government immediately ordered all live poultry markets to be shut down for 10 days, due to fears that locals may ingest contaminated meat. Although there are reports of hoarding activities, such as those seen earlier in the week in Taichung City, business owners in Shenzhen City will not be receiving subsidies from the government.
