Provincial Health Family Planning Commission announced in December 2016 the province's statutory reporting of infectious diseases
Health and Family Planning Committee of Guangdong Province
December 2016 (December 1, 2016 to December 31st 24 hours), the province reported a total of 33,430 cases of Class B infectious diseases, 134 deaths. Among them, no reports of Class A infectious diseases. B infectious diseases such as atypical pneumonia, poliomyelitis, human infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza, anthrax, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis and diphtheria were reported. Among them, 14 cases of H7N9 were reported in Guangzhou, 3 in Shenzhen, 2 in Dongguan, 1 in Dongguan, 1 in Zhongshan, 3 in Jiangmen, 2 in Zhaoqing and 2 in Jieyang. The top five infectious diseases reported in December were hepatitis B, tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea and hepatitis C, accounting for 94.41% of the total number of reported cases. The top three reported deaths were AIDS, H7N9 and tuberculosis, accounting for 92.54% of the total reported deaths. December the province reported a total of 36,144 cases of infectious diseases C, 1 case of death. The top three diseases reported were HFMD, other infectious diarrhea and influenza, accounting for 94.02% of the total reported incidence of infectious diseases.
The above report does not count 2 of the known exported cases. Typically officials only count the cases inside their municipalities. They do not count cases that have been diagnosed/treated elsewhere:
#816 - Male, 58, onset November 20, stall owner exposed to infected chickens tested positive December 13 in Macao, stable condition, from Guangdong province WHO rpt 19/12/16
#827 - Male, 70, onset December 26, hospitalized December 27, serious condition, in Hong Kong, possible exposure in Zhongshan, Guangdong province WHO rpt 3/1/17
Case #827 had no reported contact with live poultry in Zhongshan. It is possible he contracted H7N9 from another human.
I believe that case #817 who became ill in Dongguan province and visited a hospital there before traveling to Hong Kong is included in the above report as a case but not a death:
#817 - Male, 75, onset December 8, hospitalized December 9 in Hong Kong, test positive December 19, travel history to Dongguan, Guangdong province Death WHO rpt 23/12/16
I also believe that the entire 7 deaths are all on the mainland since exported case #817 died in Hong Kong and would be reported separately by the CHP.
