02/16/2006

China has given Ukraine two sets of samples of inactivated vaccine against highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu).

Ukraine's Embassy in China reported this to Ukrainian News.

China also presented accompanying documents for further research and production testing by Ukrainian epidemiologists.

Ukraine is the only country, which received the samples of the newest vaccine created by China for free.

The vaccine was made from different cultures H5 flu virus.

As Ukrainian News reported earlier, in February, President Viktor Yuschenko commissioned authorities, medical and scientific establishments and poultry producers to coordinate their activities in fighting against the spread of avian flu.

The Ministry of Health admitted that there might be an avian flu pandemic next spring.

A bird flu outbreak was registered in Crimea in December 2005.
