Recently, as the weather turns cold, the number of pediatric outpatient visits to the Central Hospital, the Municipal People's Hospital, and the Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine has continued to rise. Compared with before, the number of daily pediatric patients in each hospital has increased by nearly 100%, and the majority of them are children with cough and fever. Among these children, more than 80% are infected with Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
In the pediatric outpatient clinic of Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the corridor was crowded with anxiously waiting parents and children, coughing sounds were heard one after another, and the air was filled with the smell of disinfectant.
The reporter saw a woman bringing a pale boy who was coughing to the hospital. It is understood that the boy is named Xiao Ming (pseudonym), 6 years old, and a student in the senior class of the kindergarten. He has been coughing and having a fever for several days. At first, his family thought it was just a common cold and did not pay much attention to it, but the child's condition did not improve and became more and more serious. So his family hurriedly took him to the hospital for treatment. After examination, Xiao Ming was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia.
Wang Yushu, deputy director of the Second Department of Pediatrics at Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, told reporters that there are many children like Xiao Ming recently. The number of outpatient visits in their department has reached about 150 people per day, most of whom are children with cough and fever. Among these children, mycoplasma pneumonia accounts for more than 80%, and about 30% of them need bronchoscopic lavage treatment. Among the hospitalized children, severe patients account for 5% to 10%, and extremely severe patients account for about 2%.
In the pediatric ward of the city center hospital, the reporter met Xiaoli (pseudonym). Xiaoli is 9 years old and in the third grade of primary school. She was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia because of cough and fever and has been hospitalized for a few days. Xiaoli's mother told the reporter that Xiaoli has been coughing recently and has a high temperature. Xiaoli's mother gave the child some cold medicine, but it didn't work, so she took her to the hospital for treatment. After examination, Xiaoli was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia.
Zhao Qiuju, deputy director of the Third Department of Pediatrics at the Central Hospital, said that among the 40 children currently hospitalized in the department, about 80% suffer from mycoplasma pneumonia. For mycoplasma pneumonia, macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin, clarithromycin, and azithromycin are the first choice for treatment. However, parents should not choose this type of drug treatment without finding out the cause, so as to avoid drug resistance.
Guo Yanxia, director of the First Pediatrics Department of the Yihe Branch of the Municipal People's Hospital, reminded citizens that if they find that their children have symptoms such as repeated fever, severe irritating cough or wheezing, they should take their children to the hospital in time to find out the cause as soon as possible and receive standardized treatment. At the same time, they should pay attention to reducing gatherings, maintaining good habits such as washing hands frequently and wearing masks to prevent the spread of diseases.
