An 87-year-old male died of sepsis triggered by a serious lung infection on Saturday. The man reportedly was suffering from dry cough symptoms on November 11 and was confirmed as COVID-19 positive two days later.

Jin Ronghua, dean of Beijing Ditan Hospital of Capital Medical University, revealed more details of the patient at Sunday's press conference. Jin said the man was suffering from long-term hypertension, a cerebral infarction and cerebellar atrophy, and was transferred to Beijing Ditan Hospital for treatment on November 13 and had a tendency of sepsis.

(Bloomberg) -- There are serious ramifications to being exposed to Covid-19 in China -- and it’s not infection. As the country confronts its biggest outbreak ever, residents in major cities are hunkering down because of the prospect of being sent to a quarantine camp or locked down at home.

Going out in the capital of Beijing means having to scan a QR code to enter venues like shops and restaurants, or take public transportation. Under the country’s ubiquitous contract-tracing surveillance system, visiting the same places as someone who later turns up infected can land you in a quarantine facility, where conditions are so poor that some people say they are buying chamber pots and portable tents at the prospect.

That’s why the capital has largely battened down. People are staying at home as transmission increases, even though the overall risk of infection remains low, with 1,854 cases reported for the city of 22 million people on Thursday....

Beijing adds new COVID quarantine centers, sparking panic buying

BEIJING (AP) — Residents of China's capital were emptying supermarket shelves and overwhelming delivery apps Friday as the city government ordered accelerated construction of COVID-19 quarantine centers and field hospitals.
Uncertainty and scattered, unconfirmed reports of a lockdown on at least some Beijing districts have fueled the demand for food and other supplies, something not seen in the city for months.

Daily cases of COVID-19 across the country are hitting records, with 32,695 reported Friday. Of those, 1,860 were in Beijing, the majority of them asymptomatic.

Improvised quarantine centers and field hospitals hastily thrown up in gymnasiums, exhibition centers and other large, open indoor spaces have become notorious for overcrowding, poor sanitation, scarce food supplies and lights that stay on 24 hours.
