BEIJING — China has prohibited imports of sheep, goat, poultry and even-toed ungulates from African, Asian and European countries due to outbreaks of livestock diseases such as sheep pox, goat pox and foot-and-mouth-disease.

The ban, which also includes processed and unprocessed products, comes after the World Health Organization released information of disease outbreaks in various countries, according to a series of announcements by China's General Administration of Customs dated Jan. 21.

Announcement [2025] No. 14

[FONT=宋体]　　The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) recently released information that Newcastle disease has occurred in East Timor, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea and Dar es Salaam, Iringa, Kilimanjaro, Mara, Mbeya, Morogoro, Ruvuma, Shinyanga, Singida and Tanga in Tanzania. In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic and protect the safety of my country's animal husbandry and biosafety, in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China, the Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementing regulations and other relevant laws and regulations, the following announcement is hereby made:
[FONT=宋体]　　1. It is prohibited to import poultry and related products (unprocessed products or processed products that may still spread diseases) directly or indirectly from the above 10 regions of Timor-Leste, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea and Tanzania.
[FONT=宋体]　　2. It is prohibited to mail or carry poultry and related products from the above 10 regions of East Timor, Congo (DRC), Eritrea and Tanzania into the country. Once found, they will be returned or destroyed.[/FONT]

All animal and plant waste, swill, etc. unloaded from inbound ships, aircraft and other means of transport from the above 10 regions of East Timor, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea and Tanzania must be treated for pests under the supervision of the customs and must not be discarded without authorization.[/FONT]
[FONT=宋体]　　4. All poultry and related products from the 10 regions of East Timor, Congo (DRC), Eritrea and Tanzania that are intercepted by border inspection and other departments and that enter the country illegally shall be destroyed under the supervision of the customs.[/FONT]

In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic and protect the safety of my country's animal husbandry and biosafety, in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China, the Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementing regulations and other relevant laws and regulations, the following announcement is hereby made:
