What started with a few dozen dead pigs in northeastern China is sending shock waves through the global food chain.

While official estimates count 1 million culled hogs, slaughter data suggest 100 times more will be removed from China?s 440 million-strong swine herd in 2019, the Chinese zodiac?s ?year of the pig.? The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecast in April a decline of 134 million head -- equivalent to the entire annual output of American pigs -- and the worst slump since the department began counting China?s pigs in the mid 1970s.

China?s hog herd may decline as much as 30 percent, said Juan R. Luciano, chief executive officer of Archer-Daniels-Midland Co., one of the biggest agricultural commodity traders.

?China will clearly need to import substantial amounts of pork and likely other meat and poultry to satisfy demand,? Luciano told analysts on an April 26 conference call. Chinese meat purchases may also boost sales of soybean meal, a source of livestock feed, in North America, Brazil, and Europe, he said.

Wholesale pork prices in China are already 21 percent higher than a year ago, and have risen in the U.S. and EU after processors sent more of their product to China. The price of bacon in Spain jumped about 20 percent during March, while pork shoulders climbed 17 percent in Germany, according to Interporc, a Madrid-based industry group.

[FONT=&quot] 　　The Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was released on May 18th. The foreign provinces of a slaughterhouse in Wudang District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, were transferred to the raw pork chops to detect the African swine fever.
　　At 13:00 on May 18, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center, which was diagnosed by the Guizhou Provincial Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center. A slaughterhouse in Wudang District of Guiyang City detected the African swine fever epidemic. According to preliminary investigations, the batch of pigs was illegally transferred from the province by the owner. Up to now, the batch of 75 pigs has a total of 6 diseases and 6 deaths.
　　Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area to carry out epidemic supervision and epidemiological investigation. The local government has initiated an emergency response mechanism as required to block the slaughterhouse, control all vehicles, pigs and pig products on the site, prohibit all pigs and their products from being released from the blockade zone, and prohibit pigs from being transported into the blockade. At present, the above measures have been implemented, and the local public security department has controlled two carriers.

　　5 Yue 20 Ri 14 , the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas to the control center reported Chinese animal epidemic prevention, Animal Disease Control Center in Sichuan confirmed, Ruoergai Aba county Jiangzha Heung African swine fever epidemic. Up to now, there have been 429 live pigs in the township epidemic area , with 111 diseases and 78 deaths .
　　Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism according to the requirements, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all the sick and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all pigs and their products are prohibited from being transferred out of the blockade, and pigs are prohibited from being transported into the blockade. At present, the above measures have been implemented.

China?s attempts to control African swine fever have been insufficient to stem further spread of the disease, with the deadly pig contagion now endemic in two regions, a United Nations group said.

The virus that causes the disease is entrenched among pig populations in the autonomous regions of Tibet and Xinjiang, the Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Rome said in a report Thursday.

Diseases that are endemic, or generally present, are more difficult to stamp out by quarantining and culling diseased and vulnerable livestock.

About 20 per cent of China?s pig inventories may have been culled in the first few months of 2019 amid fears of African swine fever spreading more rapidly, according to the FAO, which is monitoring the disease in cooperation with local authorities and China?s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs...

　　Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Information Office 5 Yue 31 Ri released, Qiannan Duyun City, Guizhou Province, illegally imported live pigs in the investigation and the African swine fever outbreaks in other provinces intercepted.
　　On May 31 , the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center. In the southern part of the country, the South China Sea intercepted an illegal traffic-clearing vehicle 10 kilometers away from the Duyun South exit . There were 32 pigs on the car . 1 head, 1death . It was diagnosed by the Guizhou Provincial Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center and the African swine fever was detected from the pigs contained in the vehicle. According to preliminary investigations, the batch of pigs were purchased by the shippers from other provinces and illegally transported into Guizhou.
　　After the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs immediately directed local investigations on epidemic situation supervision and epidemiological investigation. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism according to the requirements, culling and harmless treatment of the pigs in the same vehicle, comprehensively cleaning and disinfecting the vehicles, and comprehensively inspecting and disinfecting the road sections involved. At present, the above measures have been implemented, and the local public security department has already controlled the personnel involved.

　　Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Information Office 6 Yue 11 Ri released, Duyun city, Guizhou province Qiannan African swine fever epidemic.
　　On June 11, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center, which was diagnosed by the Guizhou Provincial Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center. The pigs raised by a farmer in Duyun City had an African swine fever epidemic. Up to now, the farmer has 331 live pigs , 15 diseases and 10 deaths .
　　Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs dispatched a steering group to guide local disposal work. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism as required, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all dead pigs and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all pigs and their products are prohibited from being transferred out of the blockade, and pigs are prohibited from being transported into the blockade. At present, the above measures have been implemented.

DAVAO CITY ? The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) has confirmed that the canned goods seized from a returning Filipino at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga in March are contaminated with the African swine fever virus, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pi?ol said on Friday, June 14.

Pi?ol said the BAI's virulogy section, led by Dr Rachel Azul, isolated the virus from the cans of pork luncheon meat brought in from Hong Kong in March, through the ASF Taqman Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Assay at the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDRL) in Region 3.

Up to now, the farm pig herds 147 head incidence 9 head and died 9 headers.
