On the evening of November 1, some netizens reported that "students of Chengbei Middle School were vomiting and suffering from diarrhea." On November 2, multiple departments in Peng'an County formed a special working group to investigate and verify the situation. Within 6 hours, the Peng'an County Education and Sports Bureau issued two statements to promptly report the progress of the incident and the results of the investigation. The symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea were initially ruled out as food-borne. All eight students were healthy, and one student was under observation in the hospital at the request of his parents.
First report: Establishment of a special working group to conduct household surveys
On the evening of November 1, a parent of a student in Class 1, Grade 7, Chengbei Middle School in Peng'an County reported in the class WeChat group that his child had vomiting and diarrhea. Later, eight more parents reported the problem. On November 2, the county education and sports bureau, county health and health bureau, county market supervision bureau, county disease control center and other departments formed a special working group to conduct home visits, food ingredient traceability, epidemiological investigations and other aspects.
At 8:03 pm on November 2, the Education and Sports Bureau of Peng'an County issued a statement on the situation. The County Market Supervision Bureau checked the purchase channels and the food samples, and the County Center for Disease Control and Prevention sent the samples for inspection. The County Health and Family Planning Bureau organized hospital doctors, County Center for Disease Control and Prevention staff, and school teachers to visit the students involved and verify their physical conditions in person. If they feel unwell, they should be sent to the hospital immediately. The County Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted an epidemiological investigation.
Second report: Incident progress and preliminary conclusions
At 1:38 a.m. on November 3, less than six hours after the first report, the Peng'an County Education and Sports Bureau issued another statement, announcing the preliminary investigation results. After verification, it was found that the nine students in the seventh grade class 1 parents' WeChat group reported that they had vomiting and diarrhea, but in fact eight students had vomiting and diarrhea, and the situation reported by one parent was not true.
According to the investigation, more than 230 teachers and students had lunch in the school cafeteria at noon on November 1, and no similar situation occurred in other teachers and students. The county market supervision bureau checked the source of the cafeteria's ingredients, ticket requests, and confirmed that the school cafeteria's procurement channels were normal and the tickets were complete. After epidemiological investigation and analysis, the county CDC preliminarily ruled out food-borne vomiting and diarrhea symptoms. At present, all eight students have no physical abnormalities. Among them, the symptoms of seven students disappeared after taking medicine at home, and one student was observed in the hospital at the request of his parents.
