BEIJING, Feb. 28 -- A total of 325 cases of measles were reported in January, down 51 percent year-on-year, according to a report issued by China's Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

The report showed that Hubei Province, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Sichuan Province had the most reported cases, with 144, 36 and 27, respectively, and one person had died from the illness in January.

The ministry started to publish monthly reports on cases of measles from January 2012, in order to prevent and cure the disease...

BEIJING, May 22 -- China reported 557 cases of measles in April, down 72 percent from the same period last year, the Ministry of Health said here Tuesday.

One death was reported, the ministry statement added...

...Xinjiang also had the highest incidence rate of measles, followed by Shanghai, Tibet and Beijing, it said.

However, the country failed to meet its goal of reducing the incidence rate of measles to below one case per 1 million people in 2012.

According to the ministry, the country will have to report fewer than 1,347 cases of measles annually to meet this goal.

Over the first four months of this year, a total of 1,504 cases of measles were reported across the country, according to statistics from the ministry...
