Surveillance in Guangzhou found two cases of monkeypox with mild symptoms

According to the official website of Guangdong CDC, on June 10, two cases of monkeypox were detected in Guangzhou. The cases were a 43-year-old male and a 29-year-old male. Laboratory testing by the Guangdong Provincial and Guangzhou Centers for Disease Control and review by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that the laboratory results were positive for monkeypox virus nucleic acid. Combined with the epidemiological investigation of the case, clinical manifestations, and laboratory test results, it was diagnosed as a confirmed case of monkeypox. The case is currently being treated in isolation at a designated hospital with mild symptoms.
After the case was discovered, our center has guided Guangzhou to carry out epidemiological investigations, medical observations of close contacts and other epidemic disposal work in accordance with relevant plans. At present, the risk of monkeypox infection to the public is low. It is recommended that citizens and friends actively learn about monkeypox prevention knowledge and take good health protection. If there is a history of contact with suspicious animals, people or monkeypox cases at home and abroad, or high-risk behaviors such as homosexual sex , fever, rash and other symptoms, you should take the initiative to seek medical treatment, and inform the receiving doctor of overseas travel and contact history to assist in diagnosis and treatment.
