Chile requested emergency measures for outbreak of influenza A (H1N1)
After the outbreak of 37 cases of influenza A (H1N1) in Chile, Mariano Ruiz Esquide, the Senate Health Committee, required to establish emergency measures to prevent the disease from progressing.
"They should take all measures from now, to prevent the disease from progressing from the most vulnerable people in regions affected by the earthquake," said Chilean senator.
However, the legislature considered that the measures will be studied carefully, considering the complex conditions experienced by the inhabitants of the VIII and VII Chilean regions affected by the earthquake and tsunami that followed on 27 February.
The senator said that "it is necessary to maintain constant instructions as washing hands, early reporting, special care for children, pregnant women and elderly and, if necessary, start vaccinating now."
Esquide Ruiz added that health authorities must act now to prevent a health emergency and go to the aid of people who have emergency housing against the cold. (Xinhua)
