In Chile, the epicenter of the eruption, the airline Friday reinstated LAN flights from Santiago de Chile to Buenos Aires, but without any certainty about the future of operations.

"The restored flights to Argentina's capital will be directed entirely at Ezeiza airport", the company said, noting that prior to normal operations by Saturday.

Air travel between Chile and Uruguay, suspended since Thursday, will be restored only on Saturday if no problems arise, the firm added.

In Brazil, where thousands of flights delayed this week, the ash cloud rose in the southern region of that country and occupied 70 percent of the state of Rio Grande do Sul

The volcanic material, which has crossed more than two thousand kilometers of territory in South America, went so far to the city of Curitiba, Parana state capital, said the Brazilian Air Force.

According to the Center for Management of Air Navigation (CGNA) of the FAB, the cloud is today from 6 000 to 7 600 meters, and still not impact the movement of aircraft in Curitiba. The ashes continued to affect, however, the Salgado Filho airport operating from the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, who this morning had to cancel the outputs of 39 flights.
