First case of avian influenza confirmed in Biobío industrial plant

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) confirmed the detection of the first case of avian influenza in an industrial plant in the Biobío region.

This measure was reported to the members of the Avian Influenza Regional Board, led by the Presidential Delegate Daniela Dresdner and the regional director(s) of the SAG, Roberto Ferrada.
"It is to be hoped that with the rigorously implemented Biosecurity measures and the rapid action of the SAG, the virus will not spread to more nearby farms," the statement from the poultry company ends.
In this sense, Dresdner expressed his regret by pointing out that "we received the sad news of a contagion in a farm, which sets off the alarm regarding what it could mean for the production of poultry and eggs in our region. Therefore, we We met quickly to analyze all the measures that must be taken to prevent and manage this situation, as well as those that could arise in the future."
The authority also emphasized the importance of taking precautions and immediately notifying the SAG in case of detecting strange behavior in wild, domestic birds or even marine animals. In the case of productive farms, biosecurity measures must be taken to protect the birds and avoid any contact with wild birds.
On the other hand, the regional director(s) of the SAG, Roberto Ferrada, reported that the finding was produced thanks to the complaint made by the owner of the facility located in Florida, due to an increase in the mortality of laying birds.
In addition, Ferrada highlighted that the SAG has been working closely with the private sector since the global alert for H5N1 avian influenza, a highly pathogenic virus that arrived in the country through migratory birds from the northern hemisphere, was decreed in December last year.
This Friday, the SAG met with the representatives of the 13 poultry farms in the region to inform them about the situation and reinforce the biosecurity measures in these establishments.
Meanwhile, from the Avícola Chequén Spa company they stressed that in the Chequén sector of Florida there are 2 poultry, and that theirs would not be involved.
Through a statement, the company indicated that it was one of the poultry companies in the area, owned by Tomás Crovetto and family, (Ongolmo parent company, Concepción), while the second was founded by Carlos Crovetto - Tomás's brother and is known as Agrochequén (parent company Las Heras, Concepción)-
"The positive case of Avian Influenza was diagnosed in Agrochequén, which we are very sorry for and puts our company on alert, however in our case there have been no symptoms of the virus. It is to be hoped that with the Biosecurity measures rigorously implemented and the rapid act of the SAG, the virus does not spread to more nearby schools," he stated.
