Chile reported the first imported case of transmission of virus Zika in a pregnant woman whose son was born three weeks , "clinically healthy" ago, said Wednesday the Ministry of Health of that country.
The woman, 28, whose identity was not revealed, had contracted the virus in November during a trip he made to San Andres Island, Colombia, at a time when he was 28 weeks of pregnancy .
"The day after his return he presented symptoms of the disease" and its contagion was confirmed in the clinic at the Catholic University in Santiago, according to a statement released Thursday by the Ministry of Health.
The mother had her son three weeks ago. "A newborn clinically healthy", as stated by the simple statement of the ministry.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday advised pregnant women not to travel to areas affected by the zika, since, according to many indications, this virus can cause birth defects and neurological disorders in infants.
This case is the fourth recorded in Chile, all imported since the Chilean mainland there is no Aedes aegypti mosquito that transmits zika, the dengue and Chikungunya.
Easter Island, located more than 1,000 km from the mainland, is the only Chilean territory where there have been cases of native zika. In 2014, he left 173 contagions, but in no case malformations in fetuses of patients presented.
