Three more chikungunya cases were reported in the country, taking the total number of those affected with the mosquito-borne disease to 1725.

According to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, all the three confirmed cases reported till noon Saturday are from Maharashtra.

With these three cases, the total number of people afflicted with the viral has gone up to 691 in the state.

A total of 13,73,146 suspected cases were reported in the country so far this year.

Of these, 14,688 were sent for sample examination to the National Institute of Virology in Pune and National Institute of Communicable Diseases in Delhi.

After Maharashtra, maximum number of chikungunya cases have been reported from Karnataka where 298 people were found to be down with the viral fever.

In Delhi, 44 people were affected with chikungunya, while Kerala, where state authorities had earlier claimed people had died due to the viral disease, reported only 38 cases.

According to the programme, no deaths have been reported in the country due to the disease.
